Mobilising private capital to support climate adaptation in developing countries

Developing countries are struggling with the effects of climate change. How to make private capital work alongside public sector investments to support vulnerable regions is an issue we will explore at our annual conference.

Attendees at last year’s Impact Investing Conference

Developing countries are bearing the brunt of climate change. According to data from The World Bank, while only one-tenth of the world’s greenhouse gases are emitted by 74 lowest income countries, these countries will suffer the worst of any climate-related impacts.

It means that across the world, communities must adapt to climate change, if they are to thrive and survive. However, not all can afford to do so. So what is the solution? Speaking at Impact Investor’s annual conference this year, Wim Vandenhoeck, senior portfolio manager at Invesco, will explore how private capital can work in tandem with public sector investments to create beneficial synergies that can drive a more resilient future across vulnerable regions, by focusing investments specifically on food and water systems, infrastructure, and disaster protection.

Under the title ‘Generating real-world impact’, this year’s conference will take place on 7 December in The Hague. It will build on the success of last year’s event, bringing together Europe’s impact investing sector to discuss the mobilisation of private and institutional capital to address society’s biggest challenges.

The conference will serve as a platform for experts across the industry to discuss the real-world impact of impact investing strategies, across asset classes and regions.
