Michael Wehrle takes over from Philipp Mueller at BlueOrchard, while Mueller moves to Blue Earth Capital | M&G hires Charlie Anniss as fund manager of its Nature and Biodiversity Solutions Fund

Swiss impact investor BlueOrchard has appointed Michael Wehrle as CEO, taking over the helm from Philipp Mueller, who has been in the role since 2020 and who is now moving to Blue Earth Capital.

Wehrle joined BlueOrchard – owned by Schroders – in 2021. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval, and he is currently head of investment solutions and private equity, and a member of the executive management team.
He is also responsible for overseeing the portfolio management and asset allocation of the firm’s funds and mandates, as well as the development of product solutions. Prior to joining BlueOrchard, he held various management roles across public and private markets.
As part of the changes, BlueOrchard has also appointed Maria Teresa Zappia, its chief impact and blended finance officer, to join the board of directors.

“BlueOrchard has supported hundreds of millions of people in emerging and frontier markets. It is an honour to lead the firm into the next chapter,” said Wehrle.
BlueOrchard’s departing CEO Philipp Mueller will take over as head of Blue Earth Capital from October. Under his stewardship, BlueOrchard grew to manage over $5bn in assets under management (€4.3bn).
“It is an honour to join Blue Earth Capital – a firm with a clear mission, strong values, and a proven commitment to delivering meaningful impact at scale. Its foundation-owned structure, focus on integrity and entrepreneurial spirit create a unique platform to address some of the world’s most critical challenges,” said Mueller.
M&G hires Charlie Anniss as manager of its Nature and Biodiversity Solutions Fund
Charlie Anniss has been appointed as fund manager of the M&G (Lux) Nature and Biodiversity Solutions Fund. He joins from Union Bancaire Privée, where he was co-head of impact investing, leading a team of analysts and portfolio managers, and where he also launched a biodiversity strategy and co-managed the positive impact global fund. Prior to that, Anniss had spent 15 years at M&G.
Anniss will report to John William Olsen, who leads M&G’s Sustain & Impact Equity team, which manages approximately €5bn in assets.
“I’m thrilled to rejoin M&G and a leading team in the industry that has a tried and tested approach to impact equity investing, to deliver long-term returns for our clients,” said Anniss.
